Volunteer at Breathing Space

Would you like to volunteer at our innovative arts & dementia service, Breathing Space?

Breathing Space provides people living with dementia and their partner, carer or family member the opportunity to spend quality, creative time together, to shed the labels of ‘carer’ and ‘cared for’, and explore the benefits that being creative has on mental and physical health.

We are looking for a volunteer who will help enable this space to continue to showcase the potential within people, rather than what they may be unable to do.

We are looking for someone friendly and reliable, with good interpersonal skills and some experience of the arts and creativity, whether that be as a hobby or professionally. Experience or understanding of dementia and how it affects people and their carers is desirable – this can be through personal experience with family or through working or volunteering with people with dementia.

Breathing Space’s Huddersfield group runs on a Monday from 10:15am – 12:45pm at HOOT’s base just outside Huddersfield town centre. The volunteering role will be from September 2019 – July 2020 with occasional seasonal breaks (similar to an academic timetable).

HOOT will cover your travel expenses to and from the group, and we are happy to provide  references for the future.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to a career in the arts and health sector to gain experience of the therapeutic value of the arts.

To apply for this volunteering position, please complete the short form below.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with HOOT and Breathing Space.
