Make Your Mark | Collective Drawing with HOOT from HOME

Although Hoot sessions have temporarily stopped, we can still be creative and make something positive despite not being able to meet up in person. HOOT from HOME offers online activities where you can discover how being creative can make you feel good.

MAKE YOUR MARK is an invitation to send us photographs of your drawings so we can create a collection and share it online. This activity is for everyone, whether you are experienced with drawing, or just want to put some expressive marks down on paper.

Please email photos or scans of your drawings to us so we can put everybody’s drawings into a fantastic joint artwork.  Please also keep hold of your physical drawings as we want to bring them together as an actual gallery, when we can.

Some of you might already have ideas, but some of you might feel drawing isn’t your “thing”- here are some suggestions to help you get started

  • THEME: Draw whatever you like, whatever inspires you. You could think about the theme of growth -  draw something living, like plants, trees, animals, a bird flying, an insect or butterfly outside your window – or you could “grow” a doodle across the sheet of paper.
  • ANYTHING GOES:  Drawings are a way of engaging with the world around you and are very varied, from a quick line drawing, a sketch, making marks on paper, or doodling. You could also draw around something and start to make a pattern.
  • MORE: If you want to do more, then push your drawing! Add detail, shading, texture and/or colour.
  • EVEN MORE: You might want to use a different art form by adding words to your drawing, snippets of poetry or lines from a song – your words might be the drawing.
  • MAKE YOUR MARK with what you have - pencil, pen, ink, paint, charcoal, squashed leaves, beetroot juice or dissolved coffee makes good ink. We want to see a wide range of marks so don’t be afraid to experiment with what you have at hand. If you don’t have paper – use the back of an envelope, an old magazine, packaging, cardboard etc. You don’t need art supplies to do something creative.

Send to us

Photograph your work and send the image file(s) to with the Subject: ‘MAKE YOUR MARK.’ If the file is too big you can use WeTransfer to send to us for free.

If you were attending HOOT prior to the closure, send your images to

If you are happy for us to share your work on social media and our website please tell us in your email.

Finally: Please don’t criticise your work - there is no “wrong” here. We celebrate everyone’s offer and welcome all genuine artworks, regardless of how experienced with drawing you may be. We want to encourage exploring drawing and mark making but it’s the coming together that we are really excited about.
