What is happening in the sessions?
Yorkshire Calico Dress Hoot Creative Patch project
hoot is delighted to have been invited by the Woven Festival to take part in the Yorkshire Calico Dress, a new community embroidery project inspired by the success of the Red Dress at WOVEN 2025 and part of the international Calico Garment Initiative by Red Dress artist Kirstie Macleod.
hoot participants are invited to design and make fabric patches to tell their own stories. These will be put together on the dress with patches from community groups across Kirklees and exhibited across Yorkshire as part of the Woven Festival in 2027.
Join textile artist Debbie Allsop to make your own patches to tell your story for hoot's panel of this beautiful dress.
Explore your ideas, and experiment with new ideas for simple and effective stitches, fabrics and techniques.
All welcome, sewing experience is optional. All materials provided.

- Wanting to look after their well-being and mental health

hoot is located in Bates Mill not far from Huddersfield town centre on the corner of Queen Street South and Milford Street.
We have a 1-step accessible entrance on Milford Street with a ramp available. We also have a wheelchair friendly toilet and a hearing loop available to use.
